Working from Florida, Louis Rosen joined Southwestern Law School as its first Remote Reference Librarian in 2023.

After law school, Louis decided to put his love of research to use as a law librarian.  He earned his Master of Arts degree in Library and Information Science, working his way through grad school as a law firm librarian at several prominent Central Florida firms and also as a virtual reference librarian for Florida’s Ask a Librarian Program.

He then spent 15 years at Barry University School of Law in Orlando, starting as a Reference Librarian and Assistant Professor in 2008.  He taught several courses, including Advanced Legal Research, Tools for Success in Law School, and Fundamentals of American Law, and delivered guest lectures on subject-specific research in other professors’ classes.

He earned tenure at Barry Law in 2019 but left the library in 2022 to serve as the Assistant Dean of Faculty Development, Compliance, and Diversity.  After a year and a half in that role, he missed being a librarian and especially helping law students, so he is thrilled to be part of the Southwestern Law School Library staff.

Louis recently co-authored the chapter on Florida legal research resources in State Practice Materials: Annotated Bibliographies, published by William S. Hein in 2022.  In 2019, his first law review article was published: "The Lawyer as Superhero: How Marvel Comics' Daredevil Depicts the American Court System and Legal Practice," 47 Capital University Law Review 379 (2019). His main scholarly research interest is the intersection of popular culture and the law.

He also writes an Orlando-focused food blog.  If students or professors ever visit Orlando and want restaurant recommendations, or even a list of good television shows and movies to watch in their valuable free time, he is your man.  Louis is a huge fan of good food, music, movies, TV shows, and stand-up comedy.  He collects comic books and action figures (which you can glimpse behind him during Zoom reference sessions), and he loves cats, sandwiches, ‘80s and ‘90s hip hop, and most of all, his wife, an accomplished college professor.
