David McFadden Named CLA Member of the Year
David McFadden, Southwestern’s Senior Reference Librarian, has been named California Library Association’s 2017 Member of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contributions, leadership and achievements in service to California libraries.
McFadden is chair of the CLA Library History Interest Group and was active when it was a roundtable. He served on the CLA Legislative Committee from 2004 – 2007, and has been active in CLA legislative advocacy since the early 1990’s. McFadden was on the former CLA Assembly from 2005-2008. He currently is on the Interest Group Committee and is chair of the Bylaws and Governance Committee.
Prior to his arrival at Southwestern, McFadden oversaw libraries in law firms, a poverty law support office, a county law library and an academic law library. Currently, he teaches legal research classes at Southwestern for first-year and upper-division law students. He is active in general library and law library associations especially in the areas of government information, legislative advocacy, library history and legal information services to the public. He has written about and participated in workshops on legal research for public and prison librarians, inmates, and library school students.
