Southwestern hosts #FreeTheHair: Locking Black Hair to Civil Rights Movements

Join us on Monday, September 13, at 5:00 p.m. PT via Zoom as we welcome trailblazing U.S. anti-discrimination law scholar, teacher, and advocate Professor Wendy Greene (Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law) to Southwestern as the distinguished Constitution Day speaker.
Professor Greene's presentation will provide a comparative, historic, and global look at race-based discrimination on the basis of African descendants' natural hair texture and styles, as well as the civil rights advocacy and movements aimed to combat this form of systemic racial and intersectional discrimination. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to pose questions for Professor Greene.
The program is sponsored by the Office of the President & Dean, the Black Law Students Association, the Dean's Task Force on Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, and the Office of Student Affairs.
About the speaker
The daughter of American civil rights activists, Professor Doris “Wendy” Greene is a trailblazing anti-discrimination law scholar, teacher, and advocate who has devoted her professional life’s work to advancing, racial, color, and gender equality in workplaces and beyond.
The first African-American woman tenured law professor at Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law (Philadelphia, PA), Professor Greene, through her legal scholarship and public advocacy, has generated historic civil rights protections for victims of discrimination in workplaces, schools, public accommodations, and housing.
