The theme of The 2023 Law and Society Association's meeting in Puerto Rico is centered around exploring the concept of a "separate and unequal" territory within the United States empire. Participants are invited to examine the historical context of territorial expansionism and the resulting constitutional doctrine of "territorial incorporation." Through interdisciplinary perspectives, the conference aims to foster reflection on how the law perpetuates discrimination and inequalities in unincorporated territories like Puerto Rico, and encourages participants to consider broader power dynamics and visions of the relationship between law and society.

These distinguished faculty members have dedicated their expertise and research efforts to address critical legal issues, contributing significantly to the field of law and society. Their participation in the Law and Society Association Annual Meeting and Conference underscores Southwestern Law School's commitment to academic excellence, values of equity and justice, and improving the state of communities impacted by the law.
