Golden Globe Foundation Grant Supports Southwestern Law School’s Entertainment & the Arts Legal Clinic
LOS ANGELES – December 3, 2024 – Southwestern Law School is honored to receive a 2024-2025 grant from the Golden Globe Foundation (GGF), supporting its Entertainment & the Arts Legal Clinic. As part of Southwestern’s nationally recognized Entertainment Law Program—ranked among the best in 2024 by Variety, Billboard, and The Hollywood Reporter—the Clinic provides pro bono legal services to independent filmmakers, writers, musicians, and other creators while preparing diverse and often first-generation law students for careers in the entertainment industry.
“Southwestern Law School is immensely grateful to Golden Globe Foundation for its continued generous support of all of our fellow grantees, including our Entertainment & the Arts Legal Clinic,” said Orly Ravid, Associate Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Southwestern’s Biederman Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law Institute. “This grant helps us empower students to develop critical legal skills while serving the next generation of storytellers.”
The Clinic immerses students in real-world legal work, including drafting contracts, conducting copyright and fair use analyses, and negotiating licensing agreements, all under the supervision of practicing attorneys. Clients, often referred through arts organizations and film societies, include creators from underrepresented communities who benefit from expert legal guidance at no cost.
Southwestern joins a distinguished group of GGF grantees, including the American Film Institute, UCLA, and Women in Film, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to fostering creativity and education.
