Alumna Appointed Chief Judge of the Nevada Court of Appeals
On January 2, Hon. Abbi Silver ’89, will become the first woman to serve as Chief Judge of the Nevada Court of Appeals. She was elected to the Las Vegas Municipal Court in 2003, the Las Vegas Justice Court in 2006, and to the Eighth Judicial District Court in 2009, and again in 2014.
“I am so thrilled and honored to be the first female Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Nevada,” Judge Silver said. “Two years ago, Governor Sandoval appointed me to this historic inaugural Court of Appeals, and I was incredibly humbled. And now, this appointment by the Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court further inspires me. I look forward to taking the reins of our historic court while shaping the future of Nevada’s jurisprudence. I fondly remember the great mentors, professors, and students from Southwestern, and I am so thankful and proud to be a part of its alumni.”
Prior to joining the bench, Judge Silver led a distinguished career as a prosecutor. In 1990, she joined the Clark County District Attorney’s Office as a deputy district attorney and was assigned to the Special Victim’s Unit from 1994 until 2003.
